Anyone who knows me, knows I love to set goals. New Years is more like Christmas to me deciding what I want to accomplish for the year. I have even celebrated Lent, just to have a goal to reach.
Goals are just a way of helping yourself reach for higher ground. Our Father in Heaven has created us to be our best, to improve and if we don't push ourselves he just may have something happen to us to make us stretch to higher ground. Either way he knows we can be better than what we at times limit ourselves to being. I for one feel good when I accomplish, yes I have set backs but as long as I am going the right direction eventually I get there...most of the time.
My Birthday is 6-weeks away....so for a birthday gift to myself I choose to go without sugar until my birthday!
How?
WRITE IT DOWN- well I just did
SET A TIME FRAME- 6 weeks
COMMIT TO SOMEONE- I committed to my family and everyone I knew and told them I was going to do this.
MAKE IT HARD TO BREAK- I told my mom if I did eat it before my birthday I would give her 100.00. So now I can't break it- I don't want to pay anyone.
So, here we go. Today is day 1!
Here is to a better me on May 19th! To celebrate Im going on a girls trip to SLC, UT.

The POWER of WORDS
A few years ago I read a book about the energy in words so I conducted my own experiment.
I took 2 glass cups and filled them with equal parts water and rice. Then the testing began. My cups were labeled. One said HATE and the other LOVE.
Every day my 3 year old daughter Abbey and I would pick up the cup and talk to the rice. Nice loving words for the one labeled LOVE and Hatefull words for the Rice labeled Hate.
THE RESULTS:
For the first few days I didn't notice to much then I left for a vacation to UT. When I returned home 7 days later I was astonished to what I found.
THE LOVE RICE: The rice labeled Love was dry but had full curnels, not bad I thought. THE HATE RICE: The rice curnals were completely broken, the smell was horable and after washing the two containers the Hate rice jar was un able to get clean...I ended up throwing it out.
WHY?
Could our words really have that much effect upon rice? What about the things we say to ourselves?
THE TEST:
In the next few weeks I will again be testing some rice, if anyone wants to help out with the experiment, let me know. I hope to enlighten others on the power of our words.
Until then please be kind to yourself and others our tongue is very powerful! Lets be our best self in word and deed. Heres to a wonderful day of only good words.

Be your best MOM- CHORE CHART
I love chore charts...the act of crossing off your to do list feels so good, my children think so too and even though I still need to help them out..that is ok they are in training mode.
A child needs to be trained a minimum of 7x on a job before they feel confident on doing it on their own. I always tell them they are in training and help them with their chores until they are trained then they can do it them selves.
This is one of my favorite chore charts that I have used in my family.http://printable.tipjunkie.com/pocket-chore-cards-printable-chore-charts/
confessionsofahomeschooler.blogspot.com
Boost and build your children, focusing on specific things they do right not just praise in general. They grow up so fast lets enjoy them.
How to make Chores FUN?
Music-Clean when music is on, stop when music turns off
Red light Green Light- Green light they clean up...Red light they freeze
Magic item- I pick an item on the floor that is the magic item...we start to clean and who ever picks up that item gets a treat or doesn't have to clean the next room.
On the Chair Everyone helping sits on a chair..one person goes and picks up 5 items then tags the next person sitting on the chair...only one person can clean at a time. See how fast you can clean up.

Friends who have taught me-LORI
A prayer was answered that day through a good friend, but she had much more to teach me.
LORI-life lesson she taught me was-ORGANIZATION
I was pregnant with my second child and my husband got a job in Las Vegas. We were excited about the move, especially to have a job with insurance. My baby was 6-months old and I hadn't been to a doctor at all. I wasn't worried though, but sure felt good about having a more secure job (insurance wise). We moved to Summerland,NV it was a more ritzy area and quickly found that friends were hard to come by with their busy already set schedules.
I remember a few months after my move praying with great intent to my Heavenly Father above for a friend, someone who had time to hang out and share with each other and help us each grow. That night I found myself 8-months pregnant and very HOT so we went up to Mt. Charleston on a hike to get out of the heat a bit. The mountain was 45 minutes away from home and while we were there we found a fun hike that went up to a waterfall. Have to mention this side note....while hiking I found myself having to stop a few times, hello I was 8 months along and very big! At one time as I caught my breath my husband, not thinking through his words, said "whats wrong are you out of shape?" WHAT! I let him have it...had to mention that because I will never let him forget that one down...anyway at the top of this hike with this beautiful waterfall I met Lori. Lori amazed me, she had a new born baby being packed on her back...I think I surprized her also being great with child in the belly yet we were both troopers at the top of the mountain.
We exchanged numbers and to my surprize, she called me to hang out. We ended up living only about five minutes away from each other.
Lori was very organized! She was working on creating her own business of storage containers and had quite the gift. She taught me that I could get containers and organize with those...it didn't matter what it looked like inside of the containers but if they had super cute labels on them and stacked in an orderly mannor then volla it worked.
I loved the idea and to this day this is how I organize my closets...filled to brim with Steralite plastic containers.
PRAYERS ANSWERED:
As Lori and I spoke later she shared with me that before we met she had been praying for a good friend. Was it just happen stance that we both prayed for a friend, both ended up hiking the same trail and started hanging out that same week? NO WAY! One of my favorite scriptures in the Book of Mormon says "All things have been done in the wisdom of him who knoweth all things" TRUE!
Thanks Lori for teaching me how to be organized!

Friends who have taught me-Jennifer
Friends...there is nothing better than having a friend to be there with you, to talk to or someone to call when you just need them. But have you ever had a friend that just vanished? Maybe you had learned what they could teach you and it was time to move on. This is what happened with my friend.
JENNIFER GUESSEL-Life lesson she taught:Act upon your DREAMS
A few years ago when living in AZ, I met a friend named Jennifer who lived in my Appartment complex. She was pretty much the only friend I had, due to the fact I had just moved there. I found myself hanging out with Jen and she being my lifeline in many ways. She taught me to go for your dreams, not just dream but act upon them. She had done this by starting up her own thriving comany for nannies. It was amazing, and I truly looked up to her. I at the time was a budding Foot Zone Renewist (an alternative therapy for total body healing through the feet) and I loved to create body care products. I would create my own products with labels and my own blends but I didn't dare go beyond my own home. Jen gave me the courage to reach my dreams and go for it.
She hooked me up with doing a very large alternative craft show in AZ and I went to work making and creating. I was scared, but kept putting one food in front of the other with her encouragement and great tips. I did it, felt successful and finally felt that I could take that next step of getting my items out to others to bless their life.
THEN IT WAS OVER
One day when going on a walk with Jen, she shared with me that she didn't have enough time and energy to be my friend. It may have been said differently, she was a very kind woman, however from that walk on...I hardly ever saw Jen, our friendship had just vanished, leaving me wondering what I had done and not understanding.
THEN I REALIZED IT:
One day I was writing in my Journal of all of my friends in my life and what they taught me...I quickly realized that these friendships I have had in the past weren't current friends that I called or hung out with...I realized that I learned what I needed to learn from then and then our lives both moved on. I looked at my list and realized I was a better person because of these people and I love them for it but there are many people in this world and those friendships are still there and strong when we are back in contact again for brief moments but they help us reach that higher ground.
Jen quickly taught me what I needed to learn and then it was time for her and I to move on. I will never regret our quick friendship. Five years later I haven't spoken to Jen and don't know where she is...However, I do realize that she came into my life when I needed her and left when it was time. We don't have the room in our life for all of our friends to be there on a full-time basis; Our Father in Heaven knows what is best for us, lets not get down on ourselves, but trust the process and understand when good friends go their seperate way it just may be to open up a space for a new friend to fill the void, not to lose that old friend because what they taught will forever add to your Best self.
Thanks JEN GUESSEL for teaching me to go for your dreams! Your Friend..Jamie

In the Beginning...of Being your Best Self Daily
When I was serving a mission in the Texas Fort Worth mission for my church in in 2000...I found myself really struggling to fit the mold as a prim and propper missionary, it just wasn't me. I was raised by a very social family who loved to joke and play. Overnight I was thrown into this world of shiney shoes, rule keeping and being an example for all around you.
I will never forget one day as my mission companion, sister Marin Myler and I, were walking down a texas road I expressed my concerns to her that I just felt so unsure of myself and who I was to be and how I was to act. She said something that day that for many years would effect me greatly. she said..."Be your self....just BE YOUR BEST SELF!"
Over the years I have refered back to these inspired words and I have truly tried to Be myself yet be my best self. My wish to all of you reading my words is that you too take this advice.
I am a huge goal setter, I love to test, try and stretch myself through little and big goals. I hope that by sharing my goals, tricks, words of wisdom (mine or others) together we can shine, grow and lift others along our way. This is my way of paying it forward to all of those who have helped lift me to higher ground...but first and formost to bring others to Christ, because he is the healer and the one who if we improve daily...eventually we can become like him and have his image in our countinance.
